Tree Protection Hoarding in Vaughan

Hoarding built to the City of Vaughan Tree Protection Protocol, from standard barriers to heavy-duty hoarding.

Vaughan’s requirements

What Vaughan requires

Vaughan’s standard is the 2025 Tree Protection Protocol. It requires:

  • Which trees: trees kept on site, plus neighbouring private and public trees within 6 m of the property line.
  • Barrier type: set by the City’s Forestry Permitting and Plan Review (FPPR) division. Heavy-duty hoarding is required where roots are at risk of injury or compaction, and horizontal hoarding may be required to limit compaction.
  • Silt fence may be required, but it doesn’t replace tree protection barriers.
  • Inspection: once the barrier is up, you request the first inspection. Inspection fees apply.
  • Removal: FPPR authorization is required before barriers come down.
  • Security: calculated as linear metres of TPZ hoarding × the City’s standard cost per metre.

FAQ

Vaughan FAQ

What does an unauthorized activity in a TPZ cost?

The administrative penalty is $2,700.

Does hoarding length affect my security deposit?

Yes. The security is based on linear metres of TPZ hoarding.

Do you build to the arborist report?

Yes. We build what the arborist report states: the protection zones, the barrier type and any extra measures it calls for. Where the report asks for more than the City minimum, we build to the report.

Can you recommend an arborist?

Yes. If your permit needs an arborist report or Tree Protection Plan and you don’t have one yet, tell us when you get in touch and we’ll recommend an arborist.
