Tree Protection Hoarding in Mississauga
Hoarding built to Mississauga Forestry’s approved specification, with the City’s mandatory TPZ signs.
What Mississauga requires
Mississauga’s standard is the Tree Preservation & Protection Standards (Forestry). It requires:
- Barrier: fencing built to the City’s approved specification. Other fencing methods or materials must be pre-approved before construction.
- Signs: TPZ signs are mandatory and are sold by the City. No other signage may be attached to tree protection hoarding.
- Removal: the City must inspect all tree preservation hoarding before it is removed from the site.

Mississauga FAQ
Where do I get the sign?
The City of Mississauga sells the TPZ signs, and installing them is mandatory.
Can I take the hoarding down myself?
The City must inspect all tree preservation hoarding before it’s removed.
What are the fines?
Under the Private Tree Protection By-law, from $500 up to $100,000.
Do you build to the arborist report?
Yes. We build what the arborist report states: the protection zones, the barrier type and any extra measures it calls for. Where the report asks for more than the City minimum, we build to the report.
Can you recommend an arborist?
Yes. If your permit needs an arborist report or Tree Protection Plan and you don’t have one yet, tell us when you get in touch and we’ll recommend an arborist.
